A Tribute to Jean-Pierre Dujin
With heavy heart we must announce that Jean-Pierre Dujin passed away on Tuesday 2 March 2010. If you have had the privilege to build a Dujin resin kit, then you know of the high quality, accuracy and fine detail of the many wonderful kits Mister Dujin has produced over the years.
Chances are that if you were looking for that very rare, unusual subject, especially in 1/72 scale, and could not find it from the major injection plastic producers, you could find it in the Dujin inventory. My experience with Dujin kits started many years ago with a chance discovery of a kit in a hobby shop in New York City. Before this Dujin kits were an unknown to me. As my interest in French aviation grew with knowledge of the early jets such as the Sud Ouest S.O. 6000 Triton, S.O. 6020 Espadon, Arsenal VG.70, VG.80 and VG.90, I began searching for these rare kits. It was by chance that during an e-mail exchange with Mr Renaud Mangallon of Sharkit that I was privileged to make indirect contact with Jean-Pierre. As things were, Mr Dujin was looking for some books on early aircraft, which I happened to have in my aviation collection. Thus began a model-book exchange brokered through Renaud. As time went on it was to my honor to be able to contact Mr Dujin directly and find more books as he needed them and build more of his great kits such as the Swiss aircraft FFA N-20.2 Arbalete and FFA N-20.10 Aiguillon. The quality and detail of each Dujin kit is of at least equality to the best injection plastic kits out there.
It was with a deep sadness that I learned of Jean-Pierre’s retirement from the industry due to health issues. Of course the kits vanished almost overnight as hobbyists realized they would not be available much longer. Hopefully some will still be around from time-to-time. And perhaps if we are lucky, someone will pick up production of the kits again. So, Jean-Pierre, we salute you and remember you with fondness and respect. And in conclusion, we at the International Resin Modellers Association wish to express our deepest gratitude for all of the fine work and variety of kits Jean-Pierre designed and molded. Dujin has brought happiness and contentment to many of us by filling the gaps in our collections and provided a learning experience through building his wonderful kits. Rest in peace.
