Above is a model of the Northrop MX.324 in 1/72 by Unicraft Models. This kit is well done and not too difficult. Pilot and metal details were added by the builder. Decals are also after-market.
The MX.324 was the first manned rocket powered aircraft of the U.S. Army Air Corps. It was a continuation of Jack Northrop's tailless design. Northrop's research was taking place at the same time as the Horton brothers in Germany.
Below is the 1/72 Northrop XP-79A Flying Ram by RS Models. A very detailed and well moulded kit, currently out of production. Again, metal details are not included.
The XP-79 was the jet-powered version of flying wing fighter made not only to fire at enemy aircraft, but also to shear its target by ramming into it. Unfortunately the test flight was not successful and the pilot did not survive.

Here is an example of the Bell X-2 Star Buster in 1/72 by Alliance Models. A good, clean kit. Parts fit well, excellent decals are provided and most details are included.

The X-2 was a continuation of the X-1, D-558 series of research into the supersonic barrier. After breaking Mach 3 each of the two examples of the X-2 were lost in accidents.

The Douglas X-3 Stilletto in 1/72 by Planet Models is yet another finely moulded kit with great details and well printed decals. A not-too-difficult kit for those beginning in resin models.
The X-3 was further exploration of the supersonic barrier by the recently formed U.S. Air Force. Although the X-3 flew successfully and did make contributions into aviation research, it was underpowered due to delays in development of the intended engines.

This is the Douglas D-558-II Skyrocket in 1/72 from Czech Master Resin Kits-CMK. Very well formed and no need for filing or filling. Just a bit of sanding. This version is a modification of the basic kit to form the very first Skyrocket at roll-out.
The D-558-II was the U.S. Navy's next step into supersonic research. The initial aircraft was both jet- and rocket-powered. The jet allowed it to take off and land on its own and the rocket helped to achieve the supersonic speeds needed for testing. This was the first recorded aircraft to break Mach 2.

The Douglas D-558-III Skyflash was the last aircraft in the Douglas-Navy-NASA supersonic research program. This 1/72 example is by ANiGRAND CRAFTSWORK. Very well moulded, clean and with great decals. The kit is based on the wind-tunnel model.
This model is of the second version, the Model 684. This was modified from the first version, the Model 671 (put out by Sharkit). Unfortunately the Skyflash only made it to wind-tunnel testing as the U.S. Navy decided to let the U.S. Air Force fund supersonic flight reseach via the X-plane series.

This is Sweden's first jet aircraft, the Saab J-21R. To create their first jet as quickly as possible, the Swedish Air Force took the existing Saab J-21A, which was a propellor aircraft powered by a Daimler-Benz DB 605B piston engine, and replaced it with a DeHavilland Goblin 2 turbojet. This also required raising the tailplane to avoid the jet exhaust and lowering the landing gear as no propellor clearance was required.
This kit is based on the 1/72 Heller Saab J-21A with vacuform adaptions from BROPLAN for the J-21R and resin enhancements and metal details by the model builder. The conversion is not an easy one. It requires careful cutting of the vacuform sheet, lots of filler, grinding, sanding and filing as well as modification of the existing landing gear and wings.
Hopefully someone will come out with an all resin 1/72 kit that can be built from box!
